Product overview We’ve just received a 1973 Yamaha SA (according to the PU date stamp)! This model was redesigned from the “Bizarre Guitar” style to feature specifications closer to today’s semi-hollow models. Previous SA models featured a full-acoustic construction without a Bigsby-style tremolo or center block, but starting this year, a “style closer to the original semi-acoustic” equipped with a center block and a Branco tailpiece was introduced, and the “Bizarre”-style models soon disappeared from the lineup. This instrument is the “SA-90,” which debuted as a high-end model with a list price of 95,000 yen at the time; it features an ebony fingerboard and gold hardware. Featuring a maple body and two humbuckers, it produces a sound characterized by the delicate nuance typical of Yamaha. It exudes the style of a “Japan-vintage,” as if tailored to the funk and soul boom of the 1970s.
